Plays, Comedians, Concerts, and Kid Shows, Oh My!

Shea’s Performing Arts Center (previously known as The Wonder Theatre) first opened its doors in 1926. At this time, the building was a movie house under Paramount Pictures, then slowly introduced plays and musical artists. In the 1970’s, a group called ‘The Friends of Buffalo Theatre’ formed. This is a not-for-profit organization that continuously restores the buildings’ architecture so people from all generations can continue to enjoy the wide range of entertainment offered there.

Shea’s Spring/Summer Season is coming up very quickly. From February to August, there will be a wide variety of shows on stage. Some of these include the Broadway shows Into the Woods, Hadestown, Beetlejuice, Six, Jagged Little Pill, and Dear Evan Hansen. There will also be music performances from artists such as Joe Bonamassa, Brian McKnight, John Mellencamp, and Lady A. They also offer kid-friendly events such as a viewing of the Disney movie Brave, and Bluey’s Big Play. Shea’s will also have one comedian, Jerry Seinfeld.

Shea’s Smith became the first extension of Shea’s campus when it opened to the public in 2000. This location has a 237 seat ‘black box’ theatre and is hosting different types of plays once a month from February to May. This season’s list includes A Parody Musical- Wicket: The Untold Story of the Ewoks of Bright Tree Village, Every Brilliant Thing by Duncan Macmillan with Jonny Donahoe, Romance/Romance by O’Connell & Company, and Tick, Tick…BOOM! by Jonathan Larson.

Shea’s 710 became the second extension of Shea’s campus when it opened its doors in 2011. This location has 625 seats separated into three different sections. The upcoming shows include Agatha Christie’s Murder on The Orient Express, Cenicienta: A Bilingual Cinderella Story, Sex N’ The City: The (Super Unauthorized) Musical Parody, Kinky Boots, Late Nite Catechism, and Find Your Beat.

If you love live entertainment, or are interested in going to more plays, these three locations must be added to your list. Check out their websites to learn about each of the shows and when they are happening! See you there!
