Looking to break out of your shell and try something new? Look no further than the West Side Rowing Club. Whether you have never touched an oar in your life or are an Olympic rower, West Side has a place for you. From there middle school program to their adult program and everything in-between. Rowing is a full body workout that is low intensity on the joints, perfect for any age.
My experience at the West Side Rowing was truly an unforgettable one. I started out as a novice my freshman year of high school, not even really knowing what rowing was. By the time I graduated high school I had evolved into a completely new person. In four years, I was able to row in international races and at some of the biggest rowing competitions in the United States. I was able to travel to cities like Boston and Philadelphia to compete at a national level for my age. It was an experience I wouldn’t trade for the world. During my years at West Side, I was taught so many valuable life lessons. I learned resilience and strength, dedication, and drive. I was able to truly understand how to be a team player and work efficiently with other people. I was able to create lifelong friendships with girls from across Western, New York. The thing I am most grateful for, is that I can forever call West Side Rowing Club home. It is a place I will always feel welcomed with open arms.
The West Side Rowing Club has a Middle school “learn to row program” starting on July 5th with both half day and full day sessions. They Adult learn to row also starts on July 5th and runs every Tuesday and Thursday evening. The regular Highschool season begins in the fall and is welcome to people with no experience. The Club is having their first regatta of the summer season called the West Side Invite on July 10th. It is an awesome day full of races to watch looking over the beautiful BlackRock Canal. I encourage everyone to check them out on social media and see how rowing can change their life.
