6th Annual Buffalo Groundhog Day's Hibernation Celebration

Buffalo Groundhog Day's Hibernation Celebration, presented by local businesses, features a one-of-a-kind hibernation ceremony that kicks off at the start of a long, cozy winter slumber for Buffalo Bert and his mother, Buffalo Mack. But before the weatherhog duo is tucked into bed for the season, we throw them a party fit for the whole family!

Discover 716 was in attendance at the 6th annual Buffalo Groundhog Day Celebration presented by Hall, Ricketts, Schuller & Gurbacki, P.C., on Saturday, January 26, 2019, at Flying Bison Brewing Company for the premiere winter festival in all of Western New York.

Live music was performed by a local favorite, Hocus Polka, delicious cold beer, fantastic food trucks, and an afternoon with friends is just what's needed to beat those winter blues. And who can forget a special winter weather prediction from Buffalo's best weatherhog duo, Buffalo Mack and Buffalo Bert!

We made our way to the Buffalo Distilling Company (Buffalo's Oldest Brewery) and enjoyed some live blues while sipping on their signature cocktail "The Larkenville" made with their very own One Foot Cock bourbon.

The main event was held in an event tent outside of the Flying Bison Brewery, a spectacular location with an amazing selection of delicious beers and a wide variety of animals on display from local animal rescues. I had a great time feeding the alpacas, spending time with a hawk, an owl, and even a cute little skunk! My favorite beer was the Thundersnow IPA, which features a whopping 7.7% alcohol volume.

I had a great time at this event, and it was a nice change from the ones I frequented in Florida, and there were some really classy people in the crowd. Couples, families, and people from all over Western New York and beyond could be found in the crowd enjoying drinks and entertainment. Lloyd's Taco Truck provided some amazing food and refreshments.

To top it all off, the event features your favorite weatherhogs, Buffalo Bert and Buffalo Mack as they let us know that this winter will be 6 weeks longer than expected.

Proceeds from Buffalo Groundhog Day are donated to Hawk Creek Wildlife Center, Buffalo C.A.R.E.S. Animal Rescue and other animal-related organizations throughout Western New York. We highly recommend you join us next year for the 7th Annual Buffalo Groundhog Day Event!
