Mississippi Mudds and Old Man River are two restaurants in the heart of the City of Tonawanda. Right down the street from each other, the restaurants offer a large variety of foods, drinks, and deserts, perfect for anyone.

Our Interns got the chance to come out to both MM and OMR and try their popular food and drink items hosted by the amazing staff. The food is exceptional and the drinks are quite tasty. The service was unlike any restaurant we've ever been to!

Mississippi Mudds is a great place for family and friends and the perfect spot with the view of the Niagara River with views from different areas and it is an amazing place. The food and ice cream at Mississippi Mudds were amazing and paired perfect, the perfect dinner and dessert in Niagara County with a view leaving you wanting more!

For the food at Mississippi Mudds was amazing the flavor combos blended so well and were so fresh and delicious! My favorite food item I had was the Chipotle Bacon Avocado Chicken Sandwich paired so well with the Kansas City Fries, the flavors blended perfectly creating a explosion in my mouth! The marinated chicken with the avocado was so perfect and fresh and the chipotle sauce made the sandwich perfectly spicy but subtle leaving your taste buds wanting more! The sandwich blended with the fries so well as the fries were covered in bbq sauce, pulled pork, and cheddar cheese sauce creating a sweet and savory flavor from the house smoked pork, and the sauces blending like people singing in harmony. The ice cream at Mississippi Mudds was also amazing I had the Mint Fudge which was Mint-ting-a-ling Ice cream, topped with hot fudge, chopped Oreos, whipped cream and Andes candies! When I say this ice cream was so refreshing, I mean that beyond belief, from how the ice cream was so cold and refreshing for any summer occasion and the crunch of the Andes Candies and the mint with the hot fudge making it THE perfect summer ice cream for everyone! Mississippi Mudds is a must go to for your summer destination whether it be a date or a family occasion!

If you’re looking for your next summer go to look no further then Mississippi Mudds, the best place there is to go whether you want fries or a burger they have it all and will blow your expectations away! -

Upon arriving at Mississippi Mudds you’re immediately hit with a feeling of summer. From the smell breeze of the lake, to the decor on the outside to the inside, and the smell of the food. After ordering our food it was really cool to be able to see our food being cooked in the kitchen while we waited. We were fortunate enough to get a little taste of everything. There are so many amazing options to choose from that cater to any dietary needs. They offer several vegetarian and vegan options and a gluten free bun option as well. We had a ton to taste test, so it was really hard to pick a favorite. My top three favorite sandwiches were the Cajun BBQ Chicken sandwich, TNT mighty burger, and the garden burger. The Cajun BBQ Chicken sandwich isn’t on the menu however it is so commonly ordered they offered it to us. Every bite of this was perfect. The chicken was seasoned to perfection and the BBQ sauce was so flavorful. If you're looking for a little bit of spice in your life the TNT Burger is right for you. The ½ pound cheeseburger is topped with bacon, fried jalapenos, fireball sauce & creole chili pepper sauce. Even though it sounds like there might be a lot of heat it does a great job at not setting your mouth on fire and has a ton of flavor. You get a great crunch from the jalapenos and a nice creaminess from the two sauces. If you're looking for a healthier option the garden burger with some vegan cajun mayo is a no brainer. You may have your preconceived notion on veggie burgers, but the ones here are unlike one you’ve ever tired before. We were also able to try a few of the different fry options. The ones that stood out to me the most were the sweet potato fries and the garlic parmesan fries. The sweet potato fries were out of the world. Honey butter was placed on top and had honey drizzled across them. The texture was the perfect blend between crispy and fluffy. The honey butter and honey just tied everything together to make it so delicious. The garlic parmesan fries were super good as well. The garlic was just right and not too strong. We wouldn;t be complete without dessert. The Frozen custard nachos were to die for. The waffle cone chips were a great way to scoop up the ice cream and some of the toppings all in one delicious bite. The Nutella Brownie Banana Blitz sundae was really good as well. The brownie batter ice cream had huge gooey chunks of brownies, the banana slices paired perfectly with the warm nutella and ice cream. There was so much of it, you definitely might have to share.

Our taste testing visit to Old Man River was one of the best restaurant experiences I have had in a long time. It was the perfect day outside, and we sat in the sun under an umbrella with a view of the river. Old Man River is the perfect place to eat on a nice summer day with its open air seating arrangements and plenty of seafood and BBQ items on the menu. The atmosphere of the restaurant is fun and very welcoming, with live music playing and plenty of bright colors that make it memorable. Each member of their team who provided us service exemplified what hospitality means in the City of Good Neighbors. Our food came quickly and was served with a smile. Everyone was very knowledgeable about each item we tried and were able to answer all our questions about the products.

I myself am a vegetarian, and I found that they had a very accommodating meatless menu. I don’t typically go out to eat much, as I usually don’t find very exciting things on the menu that I can have. However, I found a variety of different options that I could try at Old Man River. During our taste testing, I tried the Portobello Mushroom Burger, and the one of a kind Bunny Dog. The Bunny Dog is a unique item to Old Man River, it is a grilled carrot cooked and served as a hot dog. Despite an initial feeling of skepticism, I was pleasantly surprised. Dressed up like a hot dog, it didn’t even taste like a carrot. Out of all meatless options I have tried in my three years of being vegetarian, the Bunny Dog has been the most creative I have had. The Portobello Mushroom Burger that I also had was a top tier meat-free burger. The sauteed peppers that come on the burger are perfectly seasoned and are the perfect ingredient to put on this burger. I was delighted to be able to try this, and have already told my family that we must go back so that everyone else can fully enjoy the summer experience that Old Man River provides.

Upon arrival to Old Man River, I was immediately wowed by the vibrant colors of the restaurant as well as the big blue whale on top of the restaurant named Wanda. We were prepared to break bread after being seated by our gracious hosts. The meals arrived shortly after we were seated, and it was amazing. It was a lovely spread of the establishment’s best dishes. The variety and individuality of each meal pleasantly surprised me; there was truly something for everyone.

I started with appetizers, Poutine Fries and Loaded Tater Tots were the first thing for me to try. I've been all throughout Canada and had many different types of poutines, but these poutine fries were some of the greatest I've ever had. This one wins the prize in my opinion. Next up was the loaded Tater Tots. The colors in this dish were spectacular, the cheese and bacon bits really complemented the Tater Tots and all combined in your mouth for an amazing flavor, the Tater Tots were crispy and cooked to perfection. After appetizers I moved to the Rodeo Burger and the Piggly Wiggly Hot Dog. Both of these menu items were delicious, The Rodeo Burger was my personal favorite menu item that we tried. The Piggly Wiggly was a hit with the interns as well, the hot dog wrapped in bacon and stuffed with cheddar cheese just exploded with flavor when you took a bite! The next thing brought out to us was a Smokehouse BBQ platter with Brisket, Ribs and a Half Chicken. This came with 3 BBQ sauces, my personal favorite was the spicy BBQ, but the sweet BBQ was a close second for me. The Brisket and Ribs were delicious, the Ribs fell right of the bone with every bite and melted in your mouth. The Brisket was the best of the three meats in my opinion, dipping the brisket into the Spicy BBQ was the perfect combination. Lastly, we were brough tout a variety of Clams. We had Steamed, Raw and Casino Clams and while normally I despise seafood, I decided to try it. I will say the Raw and Steamed clams were not my cup of tea, but I was sold on the casino clams. I had never enjoyed seafood, but the Casino Clams are now a must for me if I see them on the menu.
